Best Samsung Mobile Under $1,000 - 2022

Samsung Galaxy Note 20: $1,000 is too expensive?

If you don't want to spend $1,300 to $1,450 on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, there is a slightly cheaper alternative, the Galaxy Note 20. Like last year's Note 10, the Note 20 isn't for demanding tasks with the phone, but it's for consumers who want all the productivity benefits the S Pen has to offer.

It could have been the best smartphone of the year. Samsung seems to have made the Note 20 what consumers expect it to be, with a big screen, a higher-end processor, a 5G modem, and a great camera. However, looking at the specification table, the price of the Note 20 seems to be only $799, or $750 for the S10e. At this price, the Note 20 will offer the best premium Android value at the level of the OnePlus 7T.

The problem is that the Note 20 is priced at $1,000, which is $200 more. That's a price that's hard to justify. Unlike the Galaxy S20, which has a display with the same performance and speed as the high-end S20 Ultra, the Note 20 feels as if the edges were cut with children's scissors.

Look at the display. It looks like a smaller version of the Note 20 Ultra, but the specs aren't.

Galaxy Note 20: 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O (flat), 2400×1080, 393ppi, 60Hz refresh rate

Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: 6.9-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O (curved), 3088×1440, 496ppi, 120Hz refresh rate

Now let's look at the Galaxy S20, which is the same price as the Note 20.

Galaxy S20: 6.2-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O (Curved), 3200×1400, 563ppi, 120Hz refresh rate

The Note 20 is half an inch bigger than the Galaxy S20, but it has both lower resolution and refresh rates, and has to give up curved edges. Of course, it can be an advantage depending on your taste. So, who would choose the Note 20 over the same price S20?

There is another difference. The Note 20 has 4GB less RAM than the S20 (8GB vs. 12GB), no external memory slot, is heavier (194 grams vs. 163 grams), has the same camera, and only has a slightly larger battery capacity (4,300 mAh vs. 4,000). mAh). And the material on the back is ‘reinforced polycarbonate’ rather than the glass applied to other flagship smartphones.

What's more, earlier this year Samsung introduced the Note 10 Lite, which is in many ways similar to the Note 20, but only costs $500. It has a 6.7-inch display, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 4,500mAh large-capacity battery, and a high-definition front camera. And, of course, since it's a note, the S Pen is included.

Samsung fans will point out that the Note 10 Lite does not have the 5G of the Note 20 or the Snapdragon 865+. But these two elements are worth around $250, not $500. Simply put, the Note 20 isn't worth $1,000. Especially compared to the Google Pixel 4a, which was unveiled earlier this week.

There's nothing wrong with the Note 20 itself. A plastic back, a flat-panel display, and even a move to a lower resolution are all acceptable compromises for a price cut if Samsung actually lowered the price.

Who will buy the Note 20? Genuine Note fans will go for the Note 20 Ultra, Samsung fans will buy the S10+, and budget-conscious will choose the A51 or A71. All of them are equipped with 5G modems. In the end, there will be no Note 20 buyer except for those who have the money but don't know the pertinent information.
